Madu’s Song
my heart calls a longing
where coconuts sway
greens vivid and varied
and bold colour contrasts
mountains thrusting skyward.
the sea embraces tenderly
an emerald shoreline
the silver of sand
brown people call greeting.
my brother my sister where are you going
ke man, ke mana
this warmth I am missing
faraway island
the light of my life
for you I am crying
I hear you now calling
to Bali my daughter
to Bali my son
my dream’s again happy
in sleep sweet repose
a vision of Eden
this paradise lost
to Bali returning
to men of the earth
